hosted by the Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History
 in year 2003-2005

Architecture & Fashion:

A Photographic View Point

Organized by the Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History

Developed & Curated by Lori J. Durante

On Display in the Archives Room at Schoolhouse Children’s Museum

in Boynton Beach , FL

located at 129 E. Ocean Avenue, Boynton Beach, FL

September 26 - December 31, 2006

Through photos, Architecture & Fashion will highlight the relationship between the two in there style, shape, cut, color and design. Some examples of these similarities were in-directly influenced by one another and some are more intentional. Case in point, French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent opened his own fashion house in the 1960s and emerged with signature creations such as his popular "Mondrian" jersey dress that was inspired by Dutch painter Piet Mondrian of Amsterdam . Mondrian is credited as one of three art painters that created the De Stijl (The Style) art movement in 1917. Mondrian's scope of this new style consisted of his use of straight lines, blocks, checkerboard composition and use of primary colors. Yves Saint Laurent famously adopted this style when he created the "Mondrian" dress. The exhibit will feature more than 25 8x10 photos of architecture and fashion of designs by the likes of architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and fashion designers Christian Dior and Elsa Schiaparelli, just to name a few.

This will be the 2nd display of this exhibit which originally premiered in October 2004 at the Sugar Sand Park in Boca Raton , FL. The exhibition was conceived, developed and curated by Lori J. Durante who is the Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History. She says” “we are thrilled to partner with the well respected Schoolhouse Children’s Museum in Boynton by re-displaying this photographic style exhibit for the first time in their venue.”

The photo exhibit will also be enhanced with a display of antique and vintage objects from the archival collection of the Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History that include a 1920s men’s Stetson hat that was donated to the Museum from Chris Fraser of Delray Beach, Florida and a black Chanel handbag from Geraldine Roberts-Lebowitz of Boca Raton will be featured in the exhibit. Also displayed will be hats representing various cultures and religions from Tibet to Catholicism that were donated to the Museum by Gene Hacker of Delray Beach , Florida . The exhibit will also showcase Military and ROTC hats of Dave Randolph, former Vice Mayor of Delray Beach and a graduation nurses cap from his wife Mary Randolph. And, also on display will be 1940s WWII uniform items from Mim George of Delray Beach who served in the women's division of the military as a WAVES (Womens Auxiliary Volunteer Emergency Service). A late 1940s/Early 1950s Aluminum Lunch Bucket on Loan from Mack Treadwell, Jr. will be featured too. This antique aluminum lunch bucket was once owned by the late Mack Treadwell, Sr. of Praco City & West Jefferson City, Alabama. Mack Treadwell, Sr. was a coal miner for more than 45 years (from 1938-1983, approx.) in Walker County and Jefferson County , Alabama . He used his aluminum lunch bucket for more than 20 years. Mack Treadwell, Sr.'s daughter is current Palm Beach County Commissioner Addie L. Greene and a former State Representative of the State of Florida House of Representatives .

The Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History received funding for the exhibit from Palm Beach County Commissioner Addie L. Greene, Nordstrom, GL Homes, Boris & Edith Rueger, Durante Realty and Ola M. Vickers.
